Cha-Inspired Conversations / Our Heritage
In 2018, we began Cha Community (formerly called Waco Cha) at the Waco Downtown Farmer’s Market (WDFM) with the mission of bridging cultures and creating community through premium boba tea and handcrafted dumplings. Eventually, our team began offering Dumpling Night Workshops in the Greater Waco community and popping up in events around town as we grew to a mobile tea truck. In 2020, we opened our first storefront in downtown Waco in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic prevented us from being able to continue offering in-person Dumpling Night Workshops; however, we launched our at-home Dumpling Kits with Diversity and Community-related conversation starters with the hope of continuing to help guests create community through our handcrafted dumplings.
Our journey through boba tea, dumplings, and conversations around community, diversity, and courage these past few years have transformed our views and increased our awareness and relationships with people from diverse backgrounds. Our commitment to strengthening cross-cultural relationships deepens each year as we continue our business. This is evermore so the case as we enter into our rebranded name - Cha Community - fully in this new year 2022.
In the next few months - through our blog - we will be sharing 5 Cha-Inspired journal prompts and conversation starters - some of which draw from our previous Dumpling Nights & Dumpling Kits. The prompts draw from our experiences and Jemar Tisby’s ARC of Racial Justice model (more of which can be found in his book How to Fight Racism). ARC stands for Awareness, Relationship, and Commitment.
We invite you to reflect on these questions and to also dialogue within relationships. We know that conversations are just a start and that there are a lot more commitments steps we each are challenged to make when it comes to walking out in the values of community, diversity, and courage.
